Chaos and Cookies. What kind of a name is that? Well, I will admit that I often live in a state of chaos. Fly Lady calls this Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome. Yep, that pretty much sums up my life. Not that I need to have the producers of Clean Sweep visit or anything but I really like to have a nice clean house before having guests. It is very difficult to keep my house neat and clean with two active little boys. I feel like as soon as I get a room clean and move onto the next room, the first room is messy again. The boys both have chores and they are getting better at helping around the house so the CHAOS does seem to be getting a bit better.
So, back to the question at hand, Chaos; Yes, I live in chaos. BUT I also believe the following. #1- It is better to have happy kids than a perfectly clean house and #2- God made dirt so it wont hurt! So I can live with a bit of chaos.
Cookies? Well, along with the chaos, I feel it important to have fun and make memories. That is why I try to make cookies or banana bread often, have family traditions that we follow every year during the holidays, and just have fun. I often think about what my fondest memories of my childhood are and then I try to incorporate them into my family. One of my many fond memories is of my mom baking with us. She was (is) a fantastic cook! There was always something in the oven. I especially loved eating raw cookie dough. I know, I know. Raw eggs can be dangerous, but seriously, I am still alive. This reminds me of a story...........
Way back when My Honey and I were dating, we went out one evening for ice cream. We stopped at a little, family owned, homemade ice cream shop near my home. The shop had been there for years and had WONDERFUL ice cream with great flavors. I chose Cookie Dough, which at the time was not a flavor found in the grocery stores. My Honey said, "That sounds good!" and chose the same. We left the store and headed up the hill for a drive along the coast. We were happily eating our ice cream and chatting when he suddenly said to me, "This is really good ice cream! It really tastes like it has raw cookie dough in it!" I told him it did. He got this grossed out look on his face, rolled the window down and tossed the whole cone out. I laughed so hard! I am happy to announce that I have broken him of his former anti cookie dough beliefs and he now enjoys a "spoon cookie" of dough along with the boys and me each time I bake cookies.
So, Chaos and Cookies. A cup of craziness and a spoonful of cookie dough, a bucket of disorder and a tub full of love and memories. That is my life.
